Pet Research Part 3- All about Amphibians

According to Merriam-Webster, an amphibian is a "Cold-blooded vertebrate such as frogs, toads, and salamanders. Intermediate in many characters between fish and reptiles and having gilled aquatic larvae and air-breathing adults."

Amphibians have an average life span of 5-10 years. Every amphibian species is different and can grow to all different sizes. Every species has different needs when it comes to shelter, nutrition, and etc. so be sure to do your research before you get a pet. Every amphibian should spend some time in water each day. The water should be chlorine-free and it shouldn't be tap water because tap water can contain other dangerous materials for the amphibian.

Amphibians don't require vaccinations unlike cats and dogs but taking them to the vet for routine check-ups is still very important.

Even though it is not necessary for survival, it is highly recommended to get UVB/UVA light bulbs for amphibians because it is said to help improve their eating habits, increase their immune system. UVB bulbs should be replaced every 12 months.

Only hold your amphibian when it is absolutely necessary and make sure your hands are clean and wet so that you don't make them sick or hurt their skin. Always wash your hands afterward too!

Amphibians are usually active and awake during the night but other than that amphibians don't really do much so if you have a laid-back lifestyle and you just want a pet, amphibians are the pet for you.
