Magazine Research- History

The printing press was invented in 1440 by Johannes Gutenberg and in 1663 Johann Rist ( a German theologian and poet) made what can be considered one of the first magazines. It was called the Gazette and the magazine lasted for about 5 years and it inspired the youth at that time and they found a way to incorporate the idea of magazines by adding magazines that summarized new books; they called it the scholarly articles.

In 1672 a magazine came out and it was full of songs, verses, and gossip. A French writer and playwright wrote this magazine, Jean Donneau de Vize.

America published its first magazine in 1741. They were published by Philadelphia printers Andrew Bradford and Benjamin Franklin; I say "they were published" because Bradford and Franklin had competing printing businesses and they were racing each other to see who could publish the first American magazine. Bradford beat Franklin by three days.  By the 18th century, more than 100 magazines were published in the United States but not many could afford them so later on more magazines were published and sold for much cheaper.
